Many of you did not submit articles yesterday, so I had to put in zeros. Please submit those today if you have them. Based on what I saw:
1. Be sure your articles are about the United States. If you had articles that weren't, you need to find more. 2. Be sure if you use editorial / opinion pieces, that you only use factual content, not the opinions. 3. Lots of annotations were incomplete or either opinion or just repeating what the article said in different words- annotations become commentary so should speak to the following: What is the significance of the information? What are the implications of the information? How does this connect to other pieces of research? Just writing a word or two, or summary won't help you when you go to write this paper. 4. Databases- you guys did a great job with using scholarly sources, but some of you only explored one database- you will find much more diversity if you search multiple ones: Academic Search Complete is a good one. Monday- Topic and 1 annotated article due. In class I will be modeling the research process for you using ageism as an example. When done, we will continue watching Into the Wild.
Tuesday / Wednesday- In Lab/ Media Center finding and printing sources. Thursday- In MC or lab again (will post on door)- Vocab.com due 8:00AM, quiz in class. After quiz you will have the time to continue to find and annotate articles. At the end of class, you will submit 8 fully annotated articles (counts as quiz grade) (the one you submitted Monday+7 more=8 total. The lab in 307 will be open each morning at 7:45 if you need to print. Please print front to back to conserve paper. Friday- in lab beginning organizing ideas- 5 possible subtopics due today. There will be a google form posted that you will fill out electronically with those subtopics on Friday. |
