You were given the join codes, so hopefully you have created your accounts and joined our class. You have a list assigned to you and I'm attaching the list here reflecting the definitions you will be tested on. On 8/30, I will check your vocab.com to be sure you have completed your program, then we will have a quiz in class. Here are the words / definitions I would focus on.
This week we will begin The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail. We will be reading that along side the original works of transcendentalists Thoreau and Emerson along with poems written by Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman whose works reflected many similar ideas. We will begin vocabulary.com this week, so if you don't have an account, you will need to create one. The join URL for each period are listed below. All you have to do is follow the correct link and it should automatically connect you to the right class once you create your account. Please WRITE DOWN YOUR PASSWORD b/c once you lose it, I cannot get it for you. Be sure to join the correct class as a student account and use your regular first and last names (what you are called in class). Parallel Novel #1: You should also have gotten your copy of your parallel novel and should bring it to class daily. The assignment that will be due upon completion on 9/8 is attached below. 5th: http://vocab.com/join/10Z836S 6th: http://vocab.com/join/1927S0Q Below is the slideshow to show what we are doing each day. Welcome! I'm attaching a course syllabus below, but wanted to include a few basic supplies you will need for my class since I know many are shopping for all that now. You will need: - Black or blue ink pen - colored pen for editing- any color that is dark enough to see (no yellow or light orange) - Highlighters- any two colors - #2 pencil (can be regular or mechanical as long as scan-trons can read it. - a folder or dedicated portion of a bigger notebook to keep your notes and other handouts. - notebook paper (regular or college rule- whatever you are comfortable with. I don't care if the paper is in a spiral notebook, but please make sure pages are perforated so you can remove fringe pre-submission. -Post it notes (any size 3x3 (or smaller if you write small) and index cards are used throughout the year- not daily, but they are best to keep on-hand.
