Google ClassroomMoving forward, all content and assignments will be posted in Google Classrooms. Additionally, I will be sending out videos each week explaining what needs to be done if you child is still working in the course. I am also sending out information through Remind. Students should either be in or have codes for both already, but if not, shoot me an email and I'll be sure they are good to go. Thank you!
Monday 3/16 Note cards were due today- I did a cursory check Saturday, and many of you were behind. I get things have been a bit topsy-turvey lately, so I'm trying to be flexible, but please keep in mind that you need to continue working on this at home. So... what I want you to do today is fill out this google form using the graphic organizer I have you last week- this will allow me to check your basic structure and to see how you are doing with research. If you are lacking in research, I'll check note cards again tomorrow. Below is a link to the google form- it is the same one linked on the calendar above.
**** This was emailed home 3/9, but I'm posting it here in case your email was invalid: Dear Parents, I wanted to reach out because your child is in the very beginning stage of a major research paper, and I want you to be clear about the nature of the assignment so that you can help support your child through the process. The paper uncovers the implications of an “inciting event” (within the past 10-20 years) in shaping our current society. Our process has been to refer to that as the “rock” and the societal implications as “the ripples.” I’m attaching a graphic using the Coronavirus as an example to illustrate this. The succession of images illustrates the rock with three ripples, then those 3 ripples subdivided to become what will be 6 body paragraphs. Students were to have chosen the “rock” and 3 ripples Friday, and I met with each student who had done so to give them feedback / course corrections today. I still have some who are behind, so ask your son/ daughter about theirs. This stage is important b/c if they fall behind or build a weak foundation, the rest of the project will be difficult and / or unsuccessful, and this is the biggest assignment of the semester. The rest of this week will be spent collecting and reading sources and creating notecards for their paper using Noodletools. Ask your student to see their “purple packets” for more detailed organizers. This week students are collecting research, next week they are using that to fill out their organizers, and the next week they will type / edit / revise their papers. Dates to be aware of: Monday 3/16: 14 Notecards (minimum- more is better) printed out and brought to class (We will open the lab in #307 for kids to print BEFORE school if they can’t print at home.) Tuesday 3/17 (Vocab quiz- unrelated to research, but I thought I’d throw that in- it was assigned over a week ago) Friday 3/19 TIDIDE & Related organizers from purple packet checked Thursday 3/26 Final Papers due (must be submitted to Turnitin.com prior to submission)
