This week we will begin The Crucible by Arthur Miller. We will be reviewing dramatic terms and completing various activities to enhance your comprehension of the text such as close reading, tracking themes, analyzing characterization, etc. This week we will be reading Acts I & and you will be collecting quotes that support your assigned theme as well as filling out your character charts as characters are introduced / developed. We will also look at who was to blame for all the hysteria at the end of act I. The next vocab unit is posted and is due next Wednesday 10/30- vocab.com due by 8:00am and the quiz will be in class as usual.

This week will be front loading our upcoming reading of Arthur Miller's The Crucible.
Monday- Read "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" - J. Edwards, and analyze for imagery and diction. Tuesday- McCarthyism / Red Scare Webquest Wednesday- Begin Salem Witch Trials Documentary Thursday- Finish Salem Witch Trials Documentary Friday- Puritanism station activity; finish webquest This week we are continuing to work on our synthesis essays. Monday: Sample Essay (Annotated) reviewed in class- see attachments below. Students drafted introduction / conclusion. Tuesday & Wednesday- We will be in the media center for students to draft essays and work on formatting/ citations / works cited page. HOMEWORK: Bring in a typed copy of your completed rough draft tomorrow. Remember, rough means it needs tweaking- it does not mean it is incomplete. Include the works cited page. Thursday: Self / Peer editing Friday- We will be back in the lab to make revisions based on yesterdays edits, You will also submit to turnitin.com once your paper is complete. We are starting Gatsby this week, so make sure you have your books each day. If you borrowed one and can't annotate, you will need post it type notes for annotating.
